These positions vary in purpose, but all represent viable opportunities for students to attain practical skills and professional experience before graduation. Specifically, please examine the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Competency information in relation to each job. NACE has created and defined eight career competencies that are essential for the career readiness of all college graduates. Information in this section will detail the top four career competencies that students can strengthen by becoming involved in each specific opportunity. Admission Ambassador
Position & Office: Admission Ambassador, Office of Admissions
Volunteer or Compensated: This position is compensated for by an hourly wage, and professional development opportunities.

Position Details: Admissions Ambassadors are campus leaders at Rowan who have an impact on the future of the university by connecting with thousands of prospective students and families every single year. Admissions Ambassadors also help ensure that the Admissions Office runs smoothly and effectively. In addition to giving campus tours and working in the office, Admissions Ambassadors also represent Rowan University during Open Houses and various receptions geared toward incoming students.

Campus Recreation: Multiple Positions

Position Details:
Facilities Operations Assistant:
- General cleaning and maintenance of facility
- Maintenance of all floors including tile, hardwood, and carpet surfaces
- Replacement of ceiling tiles & various light bulbs
- Carpentry work including painting, spackling, mounting, and repairing of spaces
- Provide preventative maintenance of cleaning equipment
- Organization and inventory of storage areas
Fitness Area Assistant:
- Educates and enforces all fitness policies to members
- Provides customers with information on proper guidelines and functions of machines
- Performs assigned cleaning duties based on customer needs & cleaning priorities
- Inspects and documents fitness equipment and second floor areas for safety and risk management
Graphic Designer:
- Coordinates with various programs & services in creating graphic promotional materials
- Prepares graphics for flyers, digital display, posters & brochures
- Creates layouts for newspapers, newsletters & other printed material
Group Fitness Instructor:
- Must have certification related to individual or group fitness
- Ensures a safe environment for participants
- Have a complete & thorough understanding of all instructor guidelines concerning the group exercise program
- Explains proper exercise technique, correct body positions & provides feedback to participants
- Creates a motivating experience for all users regardless of skill level
Intramural Sports Official:
- Prepares proper set-up and break-down of playing areas and equipment
- Utilizes proper rules and mechanics to provide a professional setting to all participants & spectators
- Enforces all intramural sports policies & procedures
- Assists participants with verifying ID & signing waiver of liability
- Accurately maintains the time, score, & any other “sport-specific” requirements
Lifeguard:
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the pool area; acts immediately & appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency

- Provides emergency care & treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services

Main Office Assistant
- Monitors member/guest entrance to the facility

Marketing Assistant:
- Distributes printed marketing materials to include brochures, flyers, and banners
- Develops & implements marketing tactics to increase attendance/participation for Campus Recreation programs & events

- Assists with the implementation, tabulation, and reporting of surveys
Personal Trainer:
- Must be nationally certified in personal training
- Provides individuals and groups with a proper program design to meet their fitness & wellness needs
- Performs Fitness assessments
- Leads special wellness centered events ex. Weight Training 101, Women on Weights, etc.
Photographer:
- Takes photos at events, programs, and activities
- Prepares images for distribution and reproduction
- Assists in maintaining a library of images representing the department
- Promotes and markets Campus Recreation facilities and services
Program Monitor:
- Verifies ID & group fitness pass prior to participants entering studio
- Follows cleaning schedule for group fitness room and equipment
- Maintains participant counts and database
- Assists with departmental programs and special events
Sport Club Supervisor:
- Supervises home Sport Club competitions and practices
- Provides injury care in collaboration with a certified athletic trainer
- Ensures the playing field is prepared for competition and practices
- Assists with Sport Club administrative work, data entry, inventory and projects
Swim Instructor:
- Coordinates information from child’s registration form to specialize lesson to meet user’s needs and goals Instructs beginners to be comfortable with the water, floating and basic swim techniques
- Teaches intermediate participants basic strokes, swimming underwater and breathing techniques
- Develops advanced swimmers in perfecting their strokes and techniques
Videographer:
- Takes footage at events, programs, and activities
- Develops promotional videos for use on social media and other outlets
- Assist in script development and provides video editing

Central Office Assistant
Position & Office: Central Office Assistant, Residential Learning & University Housing

Position Details: Office Assistants are student leaders employed by the Residential Learning and University Housing department to provide front line customer service to office visitors, and supply office staff with general clerical and office support.

Community Assistant (Formally Resident Assistant)
Position & Office: Community Assistant (CA), Residential Learning and University Housing
Volunteer or Compensated: This position is compensated for by having access to professional and interpersonal development sessions, a single bedroom in the assigned residence hall or apartment, an annual stipend of $800, and a 14-week meal plan.
Application Material & Time Period: This application period is from November to January each year. Students must submit a copy of their resume and cover letter, as well as completed an CA application.

Position Details: Community Assistant (CA) [Previously Resident Assistants (RA)] are trained undergraduate student staff who live on-campus to assist students with acclimating to the university environment, building a positive community and navigating interpersonal concerns. RAs promote the development of a safe, supportive and inclusive residential community. They assist with roommate mediation, crisis response and policy enforcement.

Community Safety Assistant
Position & Office: Community Safety Assistant, Office of Residential Learning & University Housing
Volunteer or Compensated: This position is compensated for by an hourly wage.

Position Details: Community Safety Assistants (CSAs) supplement the services of the Department of Public Safety to assure the safety and security of university residences, uphold conduct standards, and promote a positive residential living experience for students. CSAs are on duty every night during the academic semester and conduct rounds through every residential building on campus.

Chamberlain Student Center & Campus Activities: Multiple Positions
Position & Office: Multiple Positions (Building Operations Assistant, Event Assistant, Information Services Specialist, Marketing Team, The Game Room), Chamberlain Student Center & Campus Activities

Position Details:
Building Operations Assistants:
- Assist the operations team on tasks around the building
- Room set ups and making sure the Student Center maintains a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, staff and community
- This role will work collaboratively with the Event Assistants and Building Managers to ensure that all events are set up correctly and efficiently
- This position is a great way to get involved with the SCCA and learn to work with a team of other student leaders.
Event Assistant:
- Assist the Student Center Event Services team in pre and post event communications and logistics
- Serve as an on-site resource during special events and other major events such as conferences, banquets, pageants, and more
- This role will also work collaboratively within the Student Center Event Services team to ensure that all customers receive exemplary service and ensure that all guests have a welcoming and positive event experience.
Information Services Specialist:
- Serve as the welcoming face of the Chamberlain Student Center and are the primary information resource to the Rowan University community and its guests
- Customer service responsibilities include, but are not limited to, operating the university switchboard; cash, credit, and Rowan Bucks sales; responding to customer needs via in-person interactions, e-mail responses, and phone calls; staffing the Rowan Information Desk; and facilitating transactions for the Equipment Rental Program and/or ticket sales

Marketing Team:
- The SCCA marketing team is responsible for providing marketing materials for Rowan After Hours, Student University Programmers, as well as larger department initiatives such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Prof’s Place To Be/Game Room events
- The marketing team is responsible for completing 8-12 office hours per week, providing knowledge of up-to-date practical software or equipment, completing assigned projects, and more

The Game Room:
- The Game Room staff is responsible for serving as a welcome person and host for the building, providing general supervision of pool tables and the gaming area by enforcing Rowan University and facility policies, providing superior customer service, and more!

Emergency Medical Technical (EMT)
Position & Office: Emergency Medical Technical (EMT), Emergency Medical Services
Volunteer or Compensated: This is a volunteer position.
Application Material & Time Period: This role accepts applications on an ongoing basis. However, certified EMTs receive preference when applying, and this position often has a waiting list of potential applicants.
Applicant Eligibility: Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior students of all academic majors can apply to this position.
Position Details: Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the ill and injured, and transport patients to medical facilities. They are also present during major events (concerts, graduation, etc.) and provide free transportation to and from stakeholder’s health appointments. Lastly, EMT’s are required to complete the NJ EMT State Certification which will be covered by the Rowan Emergency Medical Services office, and it requires a single year to complete the certification program. Once completed, students must be able to volunteer for a minimum of 48 hours each month with Rowan’s Emergency Medical Services.

Federal & Institutional Work Study Positions
Position & Office: Federal & Institutional Work Study Program (On & Off Campus), Various Offices
Volunteer or Compensated: These positions are compensated.
Application Material & Time Period: These positions are typically secured through Profs Jobs during the first few months of the fall semester. Once users are logged into the Profs Jobs system, users can click on “Position Type” to search for Federal and Institutional Work Study positions.
Applicant Eligibility: These positions are open to all Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students of all majors. All Federal Work Study roles require that students complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and are currently receiving financial aid.

Housing Prep Assistant
Position & Office: Housing Prep Assistant, Residential Learning & University Housing

Position Details:
- The Housing Prep Assistant is a generalist summer student worker position in the Residential Learning & University Housing department designed to assist with the process of closing our residential buildings after the spring semester and prepare them throughout the summer months for the fall semester opening. This position is truly a “behind-the-scenes,” hands-on opportunity to learn more about how a housing office operates during the summer months and to be a part of the bigger picture of preparing to welcome our students to the new academic year.

Position & Office: Peer Education Program, Healthy Campus Initiatives
Volunteer or Compensated: This is a volunteer opportunity, but students can potentially receive academic credit for completing this internship.

Applicant Eligibility: HCI welcomes and accepts all undergraduate and graduate students of all majors.
Position Details: Peer Education will be responsible to educate students on campus about the importance of well-being of all aspects, including, but not limited to physical, mental, social, financial, spiritual, environmental and intellectual. Individuals interested in this role will also have the opportunity to strengthen the campus-wide community through peer-to-peer support and education through programming and outreach.

Peer Referral & Orientation Staff (PROS)

Position Details: PROS serve as the front-line support staff during the summer orientation season. Each PROS member will be assigned a group of incoming freshmen that they will guide throughout their multiple day orientation experience.

Position & Office: Peer Tutor, Tutoring Center
Volunteer or Compensated: This role is compensated for by an hourly wage.
Application Material & Time Period: Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students of all majors can apply to this position. Freshmen students can be hired, but will not begin employment until their Sophomore year.
Applicant Eligibility: Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior students of all majors can apply to this position. However, Freshmen can be hired but will not begin employment until the following academic year. Additionally, Tutors must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, have a B+, -A, or A in the course they wish to tutor, and have two references for their application. Additionally, Tutors must have the availability to work six hours each week but cannot work over 20 hours during this timeframe.
Position Details: Peer Tutors provide individual and small group tutoring to Rowan University students. They also assist students improve upon their academic achievement by clarifying learning problems and developing their studying, time management, and test taking skills.

Research Volunteer & Research Assistant

Wellness Center Intern
Position & Office: Wellness Center Intern, Healthy Campus Initiatives
Volunteer or Compensated: This is a volunteer opportunity, but students can potentially receive academic credit for completing this internship.

Applicant Eligibility: HCI welcomes and accepts all undergraduate and graduate students of all majors. Students do not have to be receiving academic credit to apply for this internship, though it is encouraged.
Position Details: Interning with HCI is a great way to become involved on campus, demonstrate leadership, and attain valuable career experience. HCI works with several departments on and off-campus, and organizes the Stress and Anxiety Student Support group, Chill n Chat, Green Dot Bystander Intervention, and RU a Lifesaver suicide prevention programs.

Writing Tutor
Position & Office: Writing Tutor, Writing Center

Applicant Eligibility: Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students can apply to this role. However, Freshmen can be hired, but will not begin employment until the following fall semester.
Position Details:
- This role is open to all majors, but students must be strong writers and have at least a B+ in their English Composition 1 and 2 classes. The Writing Center is also interested in applicants who are flexible and willing to engage a wide array of students. Conversely, Tutors can only work 20 hours each week, and this 20 hours includes other on campus roles (Profs, Federal Work Study, etc.) where students can become employed.

Graduate Community Director
Position & Office: Graduate Community Director
Volunteer or Compensated: : The compensation package for this position consists of a tuition waiver (excluding fees or any prerequisite undergraduate class or elective not accepted as a part of the program) for full-time study in a Rowan University graduate program, a furnished apartment in an assigned residence or apartment complex (includes utilities and Internet at no cost), a campus meal plan providing 14 meals a week when classes are in session, as well as an $11,000.00 academic-year stipend ($5,500 per semester) paid on a bi-weekly basis over the course of the contract term. CDs must be enrolled as full-time Graduate students each semester of their employment.
Application Material & Time Period: : The Graduate Community Director is a 10-month academic year position with a start date of August and an end date of May. Any other work or non-academic commitments should be completed by the start date. CDs are not permitted to hold other employment during this term of employment with the University.

Graduate Coordinator for Rowan After Hours & Special Events
- Assist in the overall development and implementation of Rowan After Hours, the late-night and weekend programming model at Rowan University
- Work directly with student clubs & university offices/departments to plan co-sponsored events
- Serve as supervisor for over 70 RAH on-campus programs throughout the academic year, including providing staff supervision, leadership, hands-on training, risk management, etc.
- Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of SCCA special event programming initiatives including South Jersey Vendor showcase, Poster Sale, Haunted Student Center, Cram Jam, Welcome Week, etc.
- Supervise SCCA Special Events staff and volunteers, including the recruiting, training, and evaluation of team members
- Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of approximately 20 undergraduate student staff and 5 undergraduate student coordinators
Graduate Coordinator for the Student University Programmers
- Directly advise an executive board of 12 members & oversee volunteer management of over 50 volunteers throughout the year
- Advise students on program planning, University contracting, liability/risk management, insurance, assessment and other current issues in the field of campus events
- Manage a $400,000 programming budget & oversee all university contracts
- Assist in the planning, execution, and coordination of the university-wide Welcome Week(s) initiatives

Position Details: The Healthy Campus Initiatives Graduate Coordinator, under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Healthy Campus Initiatives, will be responsible for planning large-scale events in the fall and spring semesters (Student Mental Health Conference and Take Back the Night) as well as co-supervise a group of undergraduate interns from a variety of majors.

Graduate Coordinator - Orientation & Student Leadership Programs Multiple Listings

Position Details:
Graduate Coordinator for Fraterity and Sorority Life
- Advise chapter presidents and engage in organizational and student leadership development plans with chapter officers with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement.
- Advise umbrella groups such as the Inter-Fraternity Council, National Panhellenic Conference, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Greek Cultural Organizations Council, Greek Judicial Board and Greek honorary societies.
- Ensure standards of behavior and excellence expected by the institution, local chapters, and national Greek letter organizations are maintained.
- Demonstrate, model, and coach advanced leadership skills, including: group facilitation, collaboration, problem solving, goal setting, attention to group dynamics, organizational development/team building, time management, effective oral & written communication, meeting management, motivation, respect, integrity, inclusion, listening, conflict management, and event management.
- The Graduate Coordinator will provide program development and advising for a growing
community, currently comprised of 41 fraternities and sororities. - Develop and mentor responsible leadership among fraternity and sorority members,
strengthening the values around which the chapters were formed, including philanthropy,
community service and participation, academic excellence and leadership. - Act as a liaison for Fraternity & Sorority Life outreach opportunities, including Orientations,
Admissions Open Houses, Accepted Students Day, class presentations, and other collaborative
opportunities. - The Graduate Coordinator will help develop fraternity and sorority related policies and
procedures in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Student Organization Services. - Collect data such as membership lists, incidents of code/policy violations, grade reports, etc. to
assure safety/conduct standards are met. - Assist in tracking and reporting student leadership achievements within the Co-Curricular
Transcript module of ProfLink. - . Coordinate assessment efforts measuring student leadership development within Greek
chapters and involvement in non-Greek campus activities
Graduate Coordinator for Leadership Rowan
- Assist in the overall planning & implementation of the Leadership Certificate Program. Specifically administering the mentor/mentee matching process between students throughout each semester.
- Oversee the Leadership Themed Community, a collaboration between Leadership Rowan & the Office of Residential Learning & University Housing. The Graduate Coordinator will provide support by meeting with students within the community as well as programmatic support to the Community Assistants in the community.
- Act as a small group facilitator for students in order to demonstrate, model, and coach advanced leadership & interpersonal skills as needed within the programs that Leadership Rowan offers.
- Represent the Office of Orientation & Student Leadership Programs at Admissions Open House functions & other Rowan admissions events.
- Assist in tracking student leadership achievements online and assist with Leadership Mentors and other Leadership Rowan programs for undergraduate students.
- Assist with the implementation of transfer, freshman, and parent & family orientation programming, which includes assisting with day-to-day operations, providing customer service to all new students and their family members, and providing directions and feedback to PROS as needed.
- Provide assistance and support in the recruitment, selection, and training processes of approximately 40 Peer Referral & Orientation Staff (PROS).
- Assist all other major programs hosted by the Office of Orientation and Student Leadership Programs.
- Assist in coordinating assessment efforts for all Leadership programs & initiatives and assist in the development and evaluation of student learning outcomes.
- Develop a cooperative relationship and facilitate ongoing communication with other staff in the Division of Student Life and our other University partners.
- Act as a liaison for Orientation and Student Leadership Programs outreach opportunities, including Orientations, Admissions Open Houses, Accepted Students Day, class presentations, and other collaborative opportunities.
- Maintain student staff personnel records and student leadership development files with attention to detail and confidentiality.
Graduate Coordinator for Student Organization Services
- Serve as an event consultant for student organizations, approving events submitted via ProfLink and assisting in planning a successful event including attention to risk management and applicable University policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate, model, and coach advanced leadership skills, including: group facilitation, collaboration, problem solving, goal setting, attention to group dynamics, organizational development/team building, time management, effective oral & written communication, meeting management, motivation, respect, integrity, inclusion, listening, conflict management, and event management.
- Meet with student groups to guide & advise them in their leadership development & involvement on campus, and make referrals to appropriate campus resources.
- Represent the Office of Orientation & Student Leadership Programs at Admissions Open House functions & other Rowan admissions events.
- Assist in tracking and reporting student leadership achievements within the Co-Curricular Transcript module of ProfLink.
- Coordinate assessment efforts measuring student organization and success through student organization involvement and best practices for student organization advisers.
- Develop a cooperative relationship and facilitate ongoing communication with other staff in the Division of Student Life and our other University partners.
- Assist with other programs within the Division of Student Life, including but not limited to: Welcome Weekend, Start Up Smart, Homecoming, Family Weekend, etc.
- Act as a liaison for Orientation and Student Leadership Programs outreach opportunities, including Orientations, Admissions Open Houses, Accepted Students Day, class presentations, and other collaborative opportunities.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for student leader and university staff in learning and implementing the ProfLink student engagement platform. Provide individual and group technical support, troubleshooting, and training.
- Assist student organizations and departments in establishing and managing ProfLink profiles, events, rosters, curriculums, and elections.
- Maintain student staff personnel records and student leadership development files with attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Assist with reception and referral within the Office of Orientation & Student Leadership programs and mentor undergraduate student workers.
- Keep supervisor informed of professional and program successes, challenges, and concerns through regular written reports (as necessary) and one-on-one meetings.

Graduate Coordinator - Residential Learning & University Housing Multiple Listings
Position & Office: Multiple Positions (Graduate Coordinator for Housing Assignments & Graduate Coordinator for Housing Systems and Logistics)
Volunteer or Compensated: The compensation package for this position consists of a tuition waiver for full time study in a Rowan University graduate program, a furnished apartment in the assigned residence or apartment complex (includes free utilities, internet, phone, and basic cable service), a designated 10-14 meal plan, as well as an $14,375 annual stipend paid on a biweekly basis over the course of the contract term.

Position Details:
Graduate Coordinator for Housing Assignments
- Oversee departmental email alias, responding to constituent inquiries.
- Managing mandatory housing waivers.
- Tabling of various campus events (orientation, accepted students day, etc)
- Oversee the waitlist process.
- Manage lists, databases, and other data relating to occupancy/room changes, and preparing
necessary reports as needed. - Provide optimal customer service to students and families via phone and walk-ins.
- Assist with coordination of opening/closing in Fall and Spring.
- Attend weekly staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and all appropriate retreats,
workshops, or seminars assigned by the supervisor. - Other responsibilities as assigned.
Graduate Coordinator for Housing Systems & Logistics
- Assist with the review and maintenance of accurate housing records, which include room condition reports, damages, and key receipts.
- Oversee all door access operations for campus residences, room keys inventory and security, lock changes/repairs, and loaner keys.
- Be willing to learn and use various computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office, Google Drive, School Dude, RS2, Blackboard, and Adirondack’s The Housing Director.
- Assist with the entry, assignment, and tracking of work orders in a computer database.
- Supervise a staff of up to 16 student workers; prioritize, organize, and assign work to the team.
- Provide ongoing guidance and feedback to student workers to hold them accountable for performance expectations and compliance with department and university policies.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of HS&L student employees.
- Assist with the reporting and assessment of public area damages in residential buildings.
- Assist with overall support for housing logistics during the summer, including summer orientation and preparation of buildings for fall move-in.
- Oversee the inventory and distribution of furnishings, supplies, and equipment.
- Provide access to residence halls and apartments for outside contractors and facilities personnel.
- Be available for all housing check in and check out periods, which include fall check in, fall check out, spring check in, spring check out, and early move-in periods.
- Keep regular office hours during the winter and spring breaks when classes are not in session, as the office is still open.
- Be willing to perform routine administrative functions, which may include answering the telephone, alphabetizing records, filing, and assisting office staff as necessary.
- Be available to respond in person or by phone to assess Facilities/Maintenance emergencies on
campus. During summer months, be available to assist Conference and Event Services with
maintenance or key concerns.

Graduate Coordinator - Student Organization Services
Position & Office: Graduate Coordinator Student Organization Services
Volunteer or Compensated: : The Coordinator will receive tuition assistance for up to 36 credit hours over two academic years and an $11,500 annual stipend paid bi-weekly throughout the employment period for an 11-month contract (August-June for first year coordinators & July-May for second year of appointment if renewed), and also includes university housing.

Applicant Eligibility: The Graduate Coordinator for Student Organization Services must possess a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled as a graduate student. Enrollment in the Higher Education Administration or Master of Business Administration: Management Information Systems (MIS) programs at Rowan University is preferred, though not required.
Position Details:

- Represent the Student Government Association as assigned at functions.
