Career Exploration Resources
The Center for Professional Success is dedicated to supporting CHSS stakeholders in utilizing self-assessments, occupational exploration tools, and career planning and management resources to bolster students' career readiness. To support this endeavor, we have outlined a series of online resources focused on career exploration and self-evaluation. Please explore and utilize these free opportunities and schedule a Center for Professional Success appointment through Starfish/RSN to evaluate results gained through these resources.
Self Evaluation Resources
- The 16 Personality Assessment is an evaluation administered to help individuals understand their personality and how these characteristics can synergize with potential career options. After the 5-minute evaluation is completed, users will receive a four-letter code/personality type at the end of the assessment. This four-letter code will allow users to explore their personality type regarding their workplace habits, career paths, and much more.
- The FOCUS 2 is an online, interactive career and education planning system that combines self-assessment, career exploration, and decision making into one comprehensive program. By completing the five sections (personality, work interests, leisure, values, and skills), users will receive a three-letter Holland code. Unpacking this code helps individuals understand their own strengths and how these can synergize with potential careers. The access code to create a FOCUS 2 account is "PROFS".
- O*NET allows users to explore career opportunities within an industry and the overall economy. Students can use their three-letter Holland code from the FOCUS 2 to search O-Net for jobs that reflect their personality and values. To incorporate the individuals' Holland code through O*NET, please follow the steps below:
- On the homepage to the O*NET website, hover over "Advanced Search" and click on "Interests."
- Users will be directed to a new web page where they can insert their three-letter Holland Code from the Focus 2 assessment. Once users input this information, they will be provided a list of occupations that reflect their strengths, interests, and values that they can explore.
