chris saladinDr. Saladin’s current book project, Remembering Carthage: Mapping the Punic Past in the Roman Colony, c. 146 BCE – 200 CE, examines the Roman colony built over the site of Carthage following the Punic city’s destruction by Rome in 146 BCE. The book considers how Carthage’s urban landscape was shaped to erase, preserve, and reinvent the memory of the pre-Roman city, allowing the city’s residents to forge localized identities within the cultural world of the imperial Mediterranean.

Beyond ancient history, Dr. Saladin has a passion for the digital humanities and historical mapping. Before coming to Rowan, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor for Carleton College’s Digital Arts & Humanities program, where he taught courses on historical GIS and reconstructing ancient cities. He currently collaborates with Rowan's Center for Digital Humanities Research and is developing his own grant-funded Digital Roman Carthage project.
