Biography

Dr. Metin Atmaca is a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (https://cies.org/sir ) who will be teaching history at Rowan and working on his book projects during the 2021-2022 academic year.  An associate professor of history at Social Sciences University of Ankara, Dr. Atmaca earned a BSc in Public Administration at the University of Ankara, MA in history at Texas University, and PhD in Ottoman history, focusing on the political activities of Kurdish rulers on the Ottoman and Iranian frontier, at Freiburg University in Germany.  Dr. Atmaca has published a number of articles on Kurdish, Ottoman, Iranian and Iraqi history in Middle Eastern Studies, The Cambridge History of the Kurds​, Oxford Bibliographies Online, Kurdish Studies, ​and other journals and anthologies, and he is currently working on two book projects: Power and Politics in Kurdistan: The Baban Emirate between Ottomans and Iranians (1500-1850) and Kurd Sherif Pasha: A Liberal Ottoman Dissident in Europe.
