The CUGS in Middle East Studies aims to develop students' understanding of the history of the Middle East from the rise of Islam in the 7th century C.E. and the complexity of contemporary issues and problems; it also aims to develop skills that will help students professionally after they graduate.
The Middle East Studies CUGS requires 12 s.h. or four courses:
- HIST05.383 Islamic Civilizations OR HIST 05.363 Ottoman Empire (COMP01.112 Comp II is a prerequisite for both courses).
- POSC 07.347 Politics of the Middle East OR HIST 05.308 Modern Middle East (COMP01.112 College Composition II is a prerequisit for Modern Middle East)
- Two electives about the Middle East at any level from a variety of departments: History, Political Science & Economics, Law & Justice, Geography & the Environment, and World Languages (Arabic language courses). See the program guide for a complete list of courses.
