Center for Interdisciplinary Studies

The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CINDS) provides a home for undergraduate and graduate programs affiliated with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Recognizing the value of interdisciplinary study to uncover the deepest understanding of a topic, the center promotes and facilitates interdisciplinary research, teaching, and collaboration.

The Center has also launched a number of intiatives. In 2022, for example, Africana Studies collaborated with the College of Education to receive a grant from the NEH to improve teacher education on the Amistad Project. 

The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies also hosted the COVID Interdisciplinary project an endeavor to engage and promote research and programming on COVID-19 and its impact, locally and beyond (Read more here), and in 2020, CINDS launched The 1619 Project @ Rowan, a university-wide project of students, faculty and staff to explore the impact and legacies of the 400th anniversary of slavery in the United States.
