Alessandra Mirra is a native of Rome, where she received a Laurea in Italian Literature from La Sapienza (2004). She earned a Doctorate in Italianistica from the University of Macerata (2008), and a Ph.D. in Italian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania (2015), where she also received a Graduate Cinema Certificate.
Her research is primarily focused on Modern and Contemporary Italian literature, with a special interest in the relationship between literary forms and their socio-political contexts. Additional research interests include Italian cinema and post-humanism. She is an active scholar, regularly presenting at international conferences, and has published books and articles on the Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi, as well as on other 20th century Italian authors.
Her teaching experience includes a wide array of courses in Italian language, literature, poetry, film and popular culture. Alessandra is a co-founding member of the cultural association PI-Philly (Italian Professionals in Philadelphia), and is also very passionate about soccer: a big supporter of AS ROMA, she is a board member of Roma Club Philadelphia.
