GERM 03.100 - 3 s.h.
Masterpieces of German Literature in English Translation (LIT)
(Note: This course is taught entirely in English and there are no prerequisites.) This course introduces students to German literature in English translation. Using readings from a range of literary genres, students acquire knowledge of the basic critical terms necessary for the discussion and analysis of narrative works, poetry and theatrical texts. Through close reading of such works, students develop an appreciation of the cultural and sociopolitical forces that inform German-speaking civilization.

GERM 03.101 – 3 s.h.
Elementary German I
(Offered during both Fall and Spring semesters)
This beginning course is open to students who have not previously studied German. This course covers mechanics of the language, including intensive practice in listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.
 
GERM 03.102 – 3 s.h.
Elementary German II
(Prerequisite: GERM 03.101, minimum grade of C-; or waiver) (Offered during Spring semesters and also during Summer sessions, depending on student demand) (Continuation of Elementary German I)
This course focuses on the students' continued development of communicative competence in German with emphasis on the four skill areas of speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension.
 
GERM 03.201 – 3 s.h.
Intermediate German I
(Prerequisite: GERM 03.102, minimum grade of C-; or waiver) (Offered during Fall semesters)
This course is open to students who have had some limited contact with the German language. It offers expanded practice in listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.
 
GERM 03.211 – 3 s.h.
Intermediate German II
(Prerequisite: GERM 03.201, minimum grade of C-; or waiver) (Offered during Spring semesters)
This course is open to students who have had some limited contact with the German language. It offers expanded practice in listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.
 
GERM 03.212 - 3 s.h.
German Reading and Composition
(Prerequisite: GERM 03.211, minimum grade of C-)
This course offers a broad grammar review based on readings, practical use of the language, written compositions and dictations.
 
GERM 03.320 - 3 s.h.
German Civilization and Culture
(Prerequisite: GERM 03.212, minimum grade of C-)
This course surveys German history, arts and social institutions as well as Germany's contributions to Western civilization.
 
GERM 03.411 - 3 s.h.
Advanced German Conversation
(Prerequisite: GERM 03.212, minimum grade of C-)
This advanced conversation course uses topics from the contemporary German press. It emphasizes clarity and fluency of expression and includes discussions in German on topics of contemporary interest which lead to the active expansion of vocabulary.
