Giada Tripepi is an Adjunct Instructor in Italian. She was born in Cosenza (Calabria), Italy, and recently moved to Philadelphia as a permanent resident. She received her Master's Degree, summa cum laude, in Literary and Technical-scientific Translation from UNINT University of Rome in 2011. Her thesis focused on the analysis and translation of two short stories written by the African-American female writer, Paule Marshall: Reena and To Da-Duh, in Memorium. Marshall's multilingualism (African American Vernacular English, Bajan and Standard English) was rendered into Italian using a foreignizing translation strategy that allowed Tripepi to respect the otherness of the source culture. Besides translation, Tripepi's other fields of interest are gender studies, sociolinguistics and dialectology. She currently teaches Elementary Italian I here at Rowan.
