Lorena A. I. Santos Quiñones is a Lecturer in Spanish who was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She earned her B.A. in Spanish with an International Studies Concentration from Rowan University. Then, she embarked on her graduate studies at Temple University where she completed her M.A. in Spanish and is currently conducting her doctoral research in the area of Spanish American Literature of the 19th and early 20th Century. Her primary interests are in the fields of Latin American Civilization and Culture, Narrative, Poetry, and Theater. In addition, her teaching interests include: Puerto Rican civilization, literature and culture, Spanish American short stories, and Sociolinguistics. Other interests include: Masterpieces of Hispanic Literature in English Translation, Composition through Literature, and Advanced Grammar. Her responsibility as a professor is to teach students how to understand the vast and rich historical background of Latin America through the understanding of literature. She encourages her students to be active readers and critical thinkers. Lorena is extremely passionate in the classroom because she absolutely loves what she does. In her free time, she enjoys being with family and friends, visiting New York City to enjoy Broadway musicals and cooking. She is also the advisor for the Spanish Studies Association at Rowan.
