A native of Japan, Hiroko Ishikawa came to the United States to earn her B.A. in Sociology at Washington State University. Upon achieving her degree, she began working with Continental Airlines. She returned to her studies and received an M.A. in Asian Studies from Seton Hall University as well as an M.A. in Japanese Pedagogy from Columbia University. Her research interests include second language acquisition and Japanese immigration policy. Since leaving Japan, she has also resided in the Dominican Republic and learned to speak casual conversational Spanish. While growing up in Japan, she became a practitioner of Japanese calligraphy and origami.
