Biography
Juliana Frankenfield is an Instructor of American Sign Language (ASL) here at Rowan. She currently teaches ASL at both the secondary and collegiate levels. In addition to having state K-12 certification in Teaching ASL as a World Language, she holds Professional Certification from the ASL Teachers Association.
While in high school, she developed an interest in ASL and Deaf Culture. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education, she pursued courses in ASL, encouraged by Deaf friends. These studies eventually led her to pursue graduate work at Gallaudet University, where she received a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics.
In addition to teaching ASL, Ms. Frankenfield holds National Interpreter Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, as well as NJ Educational Interpreter certification. Her freelance areas include medical and religious interpreting, as well as social service and educational settings. She has held faculty appointments in Interpreter Training Programs, teaching various courses, such as Linguistics of ASL, Introduction to Interpreting, Interpreting Seminar, Ethics for Educational Interpreters, and Interpreting Lab/Practicum.
Ms. Frankenfield is a Fulbright scholar, having studied in Oaxaca, Mexico.
In her spare time, Ms. Frankenfield enjoys camping with her family and reading.
