Biography
Jody D. Bingham is an Instructor of American Sign Language (ASL) here at Rowan. She currently teaches ASL at both the secondary and collegiate levels in addition to her work as a Deaf mentor.Ms. Bingham was born and raised in a Deaf family; she is third-generation Deaf on both her parents’ sides. American Sign Language (ASL) is her native language. Ms. Bingham earned her Bachelor's degree from Gallaudet University and her Master's degree from Rutgers University.
She discovered her passion when someone encouraged her to become an ASL teacher. She is driven by her passion and fervor toward teaching ASL and she values sharing the language and culture embodied by ASL. Her specialization lies in the components of ASL that reflect the current lifestyle of the Deaf community. She has this strong desire to share the history and culture of ASL due to her background. She believes that there is added value in learning from an authentic Deaf person from a Deaf family.
Ms. Bingham enjoys spending her spare time with her CODA (Children of Deaf Adult) sons. She has a passion for traveling around the world and hopes to return to this hobby soon as possible! Ms. Bingham has already travelled and learned some foreign sign languages such as British Sign Language and Hungarian Sign Language. She also has the ability to communicate in Universal Sign Language as the bridge to other sign languages.
