GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Rowan Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship
Scholarship for student from any college or major with at least a 3.4 GPA who is studying abroad for at least a semester. Applications will be submitted to Scholarship Universe, https://sites.rowan.edu/financial-aid/paying-for-college/scholarships/continuing-students.html, and are typically due in January. Recipients will be selected by a university committee. 

American Federation of Teachers
Funds 4 scholarships. Two are for CHSS majors. Martin Luther King Scholarship: EOF, MAP, Flack Mentoring Program student. Students enrolled in the Africana Studies major or Africana Studies Concentration also eligible. Paul Tong Scholarship: Humanities major. Recipients chosen by University Committee.

ECONOMICS

Amelia & Peter Kressler Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a junior or senior with a 3.0 GPA. 1st preference- Economics major. 2nd preference- Any Liberal arts major. Selected by University Committee.

Dr. Bela Mukhoti Scholarship in Economics
Scholarship recognizes a full time upper-class student studying Economics with a 3.0 GPA. First preference to research interns within the South Jersey Research Institute for Economics and Politics.. Recipient selected by Political Science & Economics department.

ENGLISH

Maxine A. Hartley & Richard J. Johnson Scholarship
To recognize the academic efforts of an English major who is a single parent or a student with financial need. Scholarship is renewable as long as student meets criteria. Selected by members of the English Department, chaired by Dr. Coulombe. 

Richard Mitchell Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this award is to recognize an English major who best exemplifies Dr. Mitchell's daring, audacity, originality and enthusiasm. This award is not based on GPA but recognizes outstanding intellectual ability distinguished by creative thinking. Good departmental citizenship is another factor in determining the award recipient. There is one award given annually.

Frank and Helen Richie Scholarship
Recipient majors in English/Education with a 3.0 GPA. Scholarship awarded to a junior (entering senior year) with priority given to a South Jersey resident. Selected by University Committee.

Nathan R. Carb Fund
This scholarship honors the contributions of Dr. Nathan R. Carb by awarding a scholarship to an English major who intends to enroll in a graduate program. There is one scholarship available.

Nicholas Yovnello Scholarship
Scholarship honors the memory of Nick Yovnello. Awarded to a junior or senior with a 3.0 GPA and financial need. Preference to: 1-History, Political Science or Education majors. 2-Students who have worked at Campbell Library. 3- Students with an immediate family member who is a member of a union. Selected by University Committee. 

PHILOSOPHY MAJORS

The Philosophy and World Religions Department honors students each year with a variety of awards and scholarships. The department also has funding available to assist with student conference presentations, career development, and study abroad.

Entrance Scholarships (2 awards each year) 

  • These scholarships ($1,000/year renewable for 4 years) are for incoming first-year students who declare a major in either Philosophy or World Religions. Funded by the Philosophy and World Religions Department
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarships (2-4 Scholarships awarded each year) - Apply here

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Be applying in their Junior, Sophomore, or Senior year.
  • Complete this google form application and answer all questions
  • Have taken 4 philosophy and/or world religions courses by the time of application

David Clowney Scholarship for Excellence in Philosophy - Apply Here

  • This scholarship ($2,000-$2,500) is for an outstanding Junior Philosophy major.  Funded by the Philosophy and World Religions Department

Charles Wei-Hsun Fu Memorial Scholarship in World Philosophy and Religion

  • This scholarship (up to $1000) was established in memory of professor Charles Wei-Hsun Fu of Temple University. It supports the development of the academic study of philosophy and religion studies in global context and perspective. There can be multiple recipients.

  • Departmental funds to support student professional development, such as conference attendance, conference presentations, professional attire, membership fees, training, language programs, summer institute attendance, etc.

POLITICAL SCIENCE

Becker Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a Political Science major who excels academically who will be attending graduate or law school.  1st preference: Student accepted into a PhD program with intention of pursuing a specialization in Constitutional Law. 2nd preference: student accepted into an ABA accredited law school. 3rd preference: student accepted into a PhD program in Political Science, regardless of specialization. Selection by Political Science Chair.

WOMEN'S AND GENDER STUDIES

Thelma Rebecca Dyer Caswell and Helen Criden Cohen Scholarship
Recipients must be enrolled in either the Women’s and Gender Studies Program or a Women’s and Gender Studies course. Preference to first-generation college attendee who also has a single parent. If no qualified student meets this preference, the scholarship can be awarded to a Women’s and Gender Studies student. Selected by Women and Gender Studies Advisory Board.

SOCIOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is offering 8-10 undergraduate scholarships of $3000-$5000 for AY 2021-22 (starting in September, 2021) to students majoring in one of the Department’s majors (Sociology, Anthropology, Emergency Management, and Human Services). A team of faculty members will determine the scholarships to be awarded, based on (a) student’s commitment to the major and field of study; (b) student’s plan to make use of the major for an intended career or graduate school; (c) financial or other need that the scholarship will address.

Please answer the following questions and submit application by July 15, 2021. Recipients of the scholarship will be notified by August 15, 2021.
