Taking a stand: Geography & Environment professors don't sit down on the job
"I have a lot more energy for any given task because I am already standing up and ready to go!" says Dr. Jordan Howell, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography & Environment, who stands at his desk while working.
While some people think it is "weird", according to Dr. Howell, others believe having a standing desk is a great option. The 6'4" professor says that practicing the technique of having a standing desk has its rewards. "I feel a lot better, physically and mentally, throughout the day by standing rather than sitting".
However, the standing desk is not an uncommon apparatus to own. Dr. Zach Christman, also from the Department of Geography & Environment, proposed the idea of a standing desk to Dr. Howell. Dr. Howell says, "Dr. Christman really gave me the push I needed, but I guess I had heard about standing desks before. One faculty member at my old institution had one and really liked it."
Drs. Howell and Christman have introduced this unconventional yet beneficial desk set-up to their department. Perhaps this trend will spread, and Geography & Environment will not stand alone in its usage!
