Biography

Michael Scott Weiss, Associate Professor, received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany in 2003. His research, on the role orientations, perspectives and motivations of public defenders, has produced professional presentations, articles in academic journals and other sources, and a book entitled Public Defenders: Pragmatic and Political Motivations to Represent the Indigent (2005). Prompted by his background in both social science and the law, Dr. Weiss is currently engaged in research that examines how demographic and regional factors influence public defender outlooks and intends to expand these interests in the future by studying the role orientations, perspectives and motivations of prosecutors.
