Biography
Dr. Kristina Block received her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University, her M.S. in Criminology from the University of Pennsylvania, and her B.A. in Psychology and Criminology from Chatham University. Her research specializes in health criminology and biopsychosocial criminology with a focus on how health-related factors such as head injuries, sleep, and participation in athletics are associated with engagement in criminal behaviors, especially among juveniles. Dr. Block has also been involved in several research studies that assess the relationships between sports games and city-level crime. Her has appeared in a variety of peer-reviewed journals such as Crime & Delinquency, Criminal Justice and Behavior, Journal of Crime & Justice, Journal of Criminal Justice, Journal of Experimental Criminology, Punishment & Society, and Youth & Society. Dr. Block’s work has also been highlighted in mainstream media including the New York Times and Scripps National News. In addition, Dr. Block has been the recipient of research awards including the Rolf Loeber Student Innovation Award from the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Biopsychosocial Criminology and the Student Paper Award from the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Experimental Criminology.
