CINDS Initiatives

The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies also helps support interdisciplinary work. For example:

• We sponsor interdisciplinary connections in faculty research through the Summer Jumpstart program and the CHSS Works in Progress events. 
• Beginning in 2022, we help support the Faculty Senate Interdisciplinary Studies committee, which is promoting interdisciplinary programs and collaborative research across the University. https://chss.rowan.edu/centers/inter_majors/faculty_research.html 
• In 2022, Africana Studies collaborated with the College of Education to receive a grant from the NEH to improve teacher education on the Amistad Project. https://today.rowan.edu/news/2023/04/teaching-black-history.html 
• In 2023, Debbie Sharnak, History, and Julie Richmond, Interdisciplinary Sports Communication and Media, received an NEH grant to launch a COGS and Minor in Sports and Society.  https://today.rowan.edu/news/2023/04/competitive-neh-grant-to-support-new-humanities-focused-minor-and-certificate-in-sports-and-society.html 
• The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies is hosting the COVID Interdisciplinary project an endeavor to engage and promote research and programming on COVID-19 and its impact, locally and beyond. Read more here.
