Mission and Goals

Mission Statement

The mission of the SSLC is to generate social scientific research knowledge about societal, institutional and regulatory affairs that drive the legalization of cannabis towards applications that improve lives.

Our research is intended to include rigorous social scientific methods as well as community and public dialogue to inform public policy and direct education about social-behavioral and legal determinants of production and use of legalized cannabis.

Goals

1. Make data accessible on issues related to the impact of social-behavioral and enforcement legalization of cannabis to advance the understanding of administration, production, applications for use, health impacts, and public/social and institutional policy.
2. Become a resource magnet for community, government, academic entities and other external stakeholders, providing social scientific research, evaluation, and assessment of regulations and policies as well as best practices and social justice implications of cannabis legalization at the local, regional, state and national level.
3. Link social scientific research and evaluation about the legalization of medicinal and recreational cannabis to improving lives.
4. Support and create educational, outreach activities and workforce development opportunities related to the impact of the legalization of cannabis on people, cultures and policy.
5. Work in an advisory capacity to provide guidance and technical assistance at the county, regional, state, and national level on regulatory affairs, policies, and legislation to ensure equity, inclusion and social justice.
