Environment and Energy Policy Concentration
The Environment and Energy concentration prepares students to evaluate, implement and influence environment and energy policy. Students tailor their studies in the Energy and Environment concentration to best-prepare for diverse careers in environmental and energy law, regulation, policymaking, research, consulting, and advocacy.
Health Policy Concentration
The Health Policy Concentration provides an overview of health care systems and in-depth understanding of economic, sociological and political forces that shape health care systems in the U.S. and other countries.
National Security and Foreign Policy
The National Security and Foreign Policy Concentration prepares MPP students to assume positions in the national security community, including consulting firms with federal contracts. Graduates have secured jobs in key executive departments, such as defense, state, and homeland security, as well as in intelligence agencies and consulting firms. The economic outlook for employment in the national security community (including homeland security) is outstanding and unique.
Technology Policy Concentration
Technology continues to impact society across all industry sectors and aspects of daily life. Sanford’s focus on technology policy prepares students to address issues of government support for innovation and actions to mitigate the negative impacts that technology can make on individuals’ lives. The Technology Policy Concentration prepares students to assume positions in public service, the private sector and nonprofits dealing with public policy issues associated with technology innovation.

Security Policy Studies Master of Arts
Security Policy Studies (SPS) is a policy-oriented master's degree program focusing on international security issues, with a particular emphasis on 21st century security challenges and how to respond to them. These include intensifying transnational challenges stemming from organized terrorist and criminal networks, human security problems stemming from fragile states, instability from technological developments including weapons proliferation and cyber threats, as well as climate change and health pandemics. Familiar challenges like major power rivalry and regional conflicts also require fresh strategic thinking to remain ahead of changing threat curves. The SPS curriculum provides strong grounding in the national security policy-making process, and graduates build specialized knowledge that gives them an advantage in career development.

The first year consists of a core curriculum, providing a solid academic grounding in the institutions, traditions, and mechanisms of international exchange. Includes optional concentrations. Upon completion of the core curriculum, students choose elective courses and a capstone experience suitable to their thematic interests.
