What is the Difference Between Quantitative and Qualitative Research?

Quantitative research:

  1. Uses numbers and statistical methods
  2. Tends to be based on numerical measurements of specific aspects of phenomena
  3. Seeks general description or to test causal relationships
  4. Easily replicable

Qualitative research:

  1. Method is varied but does not rely on numerical measurement
  2. Instance is often important in its own right
  3. Acknowledges the importance of context and non-quantifiable factors

Mixed-methods research combines features of both approaches.
