Biography
Claude Willan graduated with a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford, where he also completed a M.St. in English Literature. He worked in a think tank in London for a year before beginning his Ph.D. at Stanford University, which he completed in 2015. He spent two years as a Perkins Fellow and Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University's Department of English and Center for Digital Humanities, after which he joined the University of Houston Libraries as Director first of the Digital Research Commons and latterly of Digital Humanities Services. His book, Literary Authority: An Eighteenth-Century Genealogy, is forthcoming from Stanford University Press. He co-authored Text Technologies: A History, with Elaine Treharne (Stanford UP, 2019) and his articles have appeared in English Literary History, Modern Philology, Journal of Modern History, The Library, and elsewhere.
