Human Services Club

From the Classroom to the Community

The Rowan University Human Services Club (RUHSC) has a unique partnership with local Camden City Farming groups to address the issues of food deserts and urban farming in the Camden City. The local farming organizations provide free access to organic, community grown produce. Students will be working with the local farming organizations in the following areas:

  1. Organizing Community Activities to increase the awareness of the farms
  2. Connecting Community members to additional resources
  3. Providing educational information on nutrition
  4. Collecting community survey data
  5. Sponsoring community families with food insecurity each semester

Next Meeting- 4/11/2018 | 7:15 | RUCAB | rm 337

Thank you to those who attended our last meeting, it was a great success as we were able to discuss some great things coming up and for the future of the club. If you could not make it, no worries I have attached what was discussed in the minutes below.
Some important things to note before our next meeting:
  • PLEASE bring in canned food items as we are going to be giving them to a family at the Hispanic Family Center
    • **We were able to do this last semester and it was a great success for us as a club to do this for a family. The more cans we bring in, the more service hours we get.
  • We will be volunteering as a club on Sunday April 22nd, from 9am-1pm at the Resilient Roots Community Farm. We will be discussing this further at Wednesday's Meeting. Again, the more people that come out to volunteer, the more service hours we will get.
  • If you are interested in a Human Services t-shirt, they are $12 and can be purchased at the next meeting!
