Why study Spanish?
Worldwide, Spanish is spoken by over 400 million Spanish speakers, and that number increases drastically if we include those who speak Spanish as a second language. In the United States, Spanish is the second most spoken language. Learning Spanish will open new doors for you, allowing you to discover a world of infinite opportunities.
Career Opportunities
Graduates can gain employment in a wide variety of professions, among them international business and commerce, education, human and social services, journalism, law enforcement, tourism, translation and interpretation, and many more.
Programs and Courses Offered at Rowan
The Department of World Languages at Rowan University houses a wide variety of Spanish programs and courses. Our programs include Majors, Minors and Certificates. We offer Spanish courses at all levels (from Elementary to Advanced), as well as special topic courses taught in either Spanish or English.
Spanish Faculty
Our instructors are experienced, knowledgeable, personable, caring and passionate about teaching Spanish and its diverse cultures. They are all either native Spanish speakers or have lived in Spain or Latin America.
Tertulia hispana
Tertulia hispana is a club in which students practice speaking in Spanish and experience culture firsthand by attending live theater and visiting restaurants to enjoy authentic cuisine. At the monthly meetings, there is always a true fiesta environment, including food, crafts, and games.

Placement Test
Students may obtain prerequisite waivers and purchase credits for courses based on their Spanish language proficiency as determined by the Spanish Placement Exam.
